Terms of Service
Plain language summary: Use Promptape for lawful purposes, don't try to break it or resell it, and we're not liable if something goes wrong with AI output. That covers 95% of it.
1. Acceptance
By downloading or using Promptape, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. These Terms apply to both the free Personal tier and the paid Pro tier.
2. What Promptape is
Promptape is a macOS productivity application that lets you run AI actions on selected text. It connects to third-party AI providers (Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek) to process your requests. Promptape is the interface — the AI output comes from those providers, not us.
3. Permitted use
You may use Promptape for personal or professional productivity. You agree not to:
- Use the app to generate content that is illegal, harmful, or violates any third-party rights.
- Reverse-engineer, modify, or redistribute Promptape or its components.
- Attempt to circumvent any licensing or payment mechanism.
- Use Promptape in ways that violate the terms of any connected AI provider.
4. AI-generated content
Promptape routes your text to AI models and returns their output. We do not review, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy or appropriateness of AI-generated content. You are responsible for how you use and share any output. Always verify important content before acting on it.
5. Pro tier & payments
Pro features are available as an in-app purchase through the Mac App Store, governed by Apple's standard terms. We don't handle billing directly. Refund requests go through Apple.
6. Your API keys
If you connect your own API keys, you're responsible for their security and for any usage charges from the respective AI provider. Keep your keys confidential. Promptape stores them in the macOS Keychain and never transmits them to our servers.
7. Availability
We aim for Promptape to be reliable, but we make no guarantee of uptime or uninterrupted service. AI provider outages, macOS updates, or other factors outside our control may affect functionality.
8. Limitation of liability
Promptape is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app or any AI-generated output. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the past 12 months.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of Promptape after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms. We'll note the "last updated" date at the top.
