How can we help?

Promptape uses macOS Accessibility APIs to read selected text. If it's not working in a specific app, make sure Accessibility permissions are granted.

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and confirm Promptape is enabled. Then quit and relaunch Promptape.

Note: some apps (like certain Electron apps) don't expose text via Accessibility APIs. This is a macOS limitation, not a Promptape bug.

Try pressing ⌘ Shift P to toggle the panel. If nothing happens, check that Promptape is running in your menu bar or Dock.

If another app is intercepting the hotkey, you can reassign it in Promptape's preferences.

This is a Pro feature. Once you've upgraded, open Promptape → Settings → AI Providers and paste your key. It's stored in your macOS Keychain immediately and never sent to Promptape servers.

You can switch between providers per-prompt from the panel.

No. Text you process is sent directly to the AI provider and never logged by Promptape. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture — it's short and plain-language.

First, make sure you're running macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon or Intel. Promptape doesn't support older macOS versions.

Try quitting via the menu bar icon, then relaunching. If that doesn't help, delete and reinstall — your prompts sync via iCloud and won't be lost.

Yes. If you're signed into the same Apple ID, you can download Promptape on any Mac you own at no extra cost.

Pro users also get iCloud sync for custom prompts across all their Macs automatically.
