Your data stays yours.
Short version: Promptape doesn't store your text, doesn't log your API keys, and doesn't sell anything about you to anyone. The details are below, but that's the whole story.
What we collect
Almost nothing. When you use Promptape:
- Text you process — sent directly to the AI provider (Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or DeepSeek depending on your settings) and never logged or stored by Promptape servers.
- Your API keys — stored exclusively in the macOS Keychain on your device. They never leave your machine through Promptape.
- Custom prompts (Pro) — synced via iCloud using end-to-end encrypted storage. Promptape has no access to this data.
What we don't collect
- No account required for Personal tier — zero identifying information.
- No usage analytics, keylogging, or text logging of any kind.
- No clipboard contents beyond what you explicitly paste into Promptape.
- No device fingerprinting or behavioral tracking.
AI providers
When you run a prompt, your selected text is sent to the AI provider powering that request. By default this is Groq (running Llama 3.3 70B). Pro users who connect their own keys route requests through the respective provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or DeepSeek). Each provider has its own privacy policy and data retention rules — we recommend reviewing those if you process sensitive content.
Payments
All purchases go through Apple's App Store via StoreKit. Promptape never sees or stores your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.
iCloud sync (Pro)
Pro users can sync custom prompts across devices via iCloud. This data is end-to-end encrypted — Apple cannot read it, and neither can we. It lives in your iCloud account's private container.
